Is It Safe in Africa?

South Africa is very a safe place for international travelers. However, it’s sensible to take normal precautions while travelling, particularly while in the city. Remember that every one of the staff at Ballantyne Safaris is committed to the health and safety of you and your family while you are in our care.

The Ballantyne staff will be with you and your family the entire time of your safari, from picking you up at East London Airport until dropping you off at the airport for your departure. The areas where we will be hunting are typically quite rural and crime is not a significant problem at all. Your Professional Hunters will see to it that you don’t get into any questionable situations on your safari.

Where will I be met?

You will be met at East London Airport in the arrivals lounge by your professional hunter. From the time you land in South Africa until the time that you depart, you are in our care.

How will I pay for my safari?

We require a deposit of 10% to secure your date. Deposits can be made stateside to Colorado African Company.

Packages must be paid in full before arrival and paid directly to Ballantyne Trophy Safari. Any additional trophies taken while there can be paid for by cash or bank transfer. There is a 4% fee to be charged when using a credit card. Gratuities are not mandatory, but they are typically expected on an African Safari. 10% is the standard gratuity to be divided amongst your Professional Hunter, Cook, Cleaners, Skinners and Trackers. 

It has happened, though very rare, for a hunting client to not get an opportunity at all of the animals in their package. We scout the game year-round to give our clients a great opportunity to harvest the animals on their list and within their package. Some hunts will require sitting in a blind, stalking, or at night with a spot-light, but we will give you 100% of our efforts to make it happen. 

The average shot with rifle for Plainsgame would be under 200 yards. If you are comfortable taking longer shots, that is OK as well, but please practice shooting from sticks and standing up, as this is the scenario most of the time.

We will range the animal for you, so you will know the distance. If Bow Hunting, most of the blinds are set up for 20-35 yards shots, over bait or a water hole.
